Imagine with me, if you will, the professional football player (I will let you put your favorite player in here) was hired because he had talent. The team owner and coach looked at his high school videos, his college videos and maybe even looked at his personality, not sure about that one. Then, the player gets hired and he becomes lazy, in fact he refuses to show up for practice. How long do you think he will be playing?

Romans 12:1 says “Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.” Because of what Jesus did on the cross for us (His mercies) we are to present our bodies a living and holy sacrifice! A sacrifice is something that dies! Listen to me friends, God wants us to die to ourselves, so that we will be pleasing to Him. This is our “spiritual act of worship”, which is pleasing to God.

So, how do we do that… Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” We must be “transformed by the renewing of your mind”. The only way to do this that, that would be pleasing to God would be to spend time with Him, in His Word! Hebrews 4:12 says “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” My encouragement to all of you today is, Spend time in Gods Word, it is “living and active!”
