One of our adult Sunday School classes is going to start studying the book “Respectable Sins” by Jerry Bridges. The first Sentence on the back of the book says “Have Christians become so preoccupied with the major sins of our society that we have lost sight of our need to deal with our own more subtle sins?” And so Bridges says that these sins become acceptable in our own eyes making them “Respectable”. So what are they,”ungodliness” is the first one and someone might say “That is not a sin!” Well, it is not murder or lying but what does God require of us? He requires us to be holy like He is holy. When we fill our minds and our lives with things that are not godly then we become ungodly by default. Anxiety and frustration; discontentment; un-thankfulness (which causes greed and all kinds of wickedness); Pride (Proverbs 16:18 “Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling.) NASB; selfishness; lack of self-control; Impatience and irritability; anger; the weeds of anger; Judgementalism; Envy, jealousy and related sins; Sins of the Tongue; and worldiness.

The title of the book is inviting and intriguing to say the least and certainly there are no sins that are respectable, so join the class and discover what sin is and how to deal with it in your own life.
